Veteran Actress Recalls The Time She Went Viral For Her Armpit Hair

As an actor, screenwriter, and film director, Moon So Ri has made a name for herself in the Korean entertainment industry over the last 28 years of her career. Her most acclaimed works include movies like The Handmaiden, Oasis, A Good Lawyer’s Wife, and Seoul Vibe.

But besides her acting chops, this veteran actress once went viral for her body hair. In a recent interview with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea, the actress shared that wild story. Moon was looking through the archives of all the old looks she sported on red carpets and other public appearances, recalling the stories behind some of them.

The actress mentioned that her 2018 Baeksang Awards outfit is the one she likes the most out of all. Talking about that particular day, Moon remembered that she was exceptionally happy because her husband, Jang Joon Hwanwas receiving an award as a director of 1987: When The Day Comes.

But her most viral moment on a red carpet came in 2021 at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Moon won the best actress award that year for her movie Three Sisters. She wore a black off-shoulder top with a pair of black trousers. The dangly neckpiece took her bare shoulder look up a notch.

Surprisingly though, the off-shoulder top was meant to be worn over the head in the original design. Moon’s stylist improvised it as a wrap-around top on her.

Though the bold look made her stand out in the best way possible, people noticed something else in her pictures from the night. Before heading out to the event, Moon said she was advised to shave her armpits, but she felt there was no need to since she won’t be putting her hand up.

But when she arrived at the award show, Moon put her hand up multiple times while greeting people and even during her award reception speech. Some people spotted her armpit hair in the pictures, and it became such a hot topic that, at one point, it was one of the top search suggestions for her name.

Moon’s reaction to this whole incident couldn’t get funnier. The actress wondered how far people zoomed into her photos to find the few stands of hair, given that her armpit is mostly hairless.

Her conclusion to this ordeal was that those people must have a really deep interest in her, and well, you can’t say she’s wrong.
