Visual troikas have always existed in K-Entertainment. First, there was “Tae-Hye-Ji,” or actresses Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo, and Jun Ji Hyun. And while some would argue this OG troika still reigns superior…
…there have been various combinations of the hottest actresses at different times, being dubbed the next troika to rule them all.
As of May 2024, though, Koreans are set on “The Kims” to take over!
A viral theqoo post of 60K+ views and counting named three actresses—all coincidentally with the last name Kim—to lead the Korean entertainment business. In addition to having the right “visuals,” the Kims have been hand-picked for boasting incredible acting skills and even having the most adored personalities off the screen.
1. Kim Go Eun
Kim Go Eun, whose latest K-Movie, Exhuma, became an award-winning blockbuster worldwide, debuted in 2012 with a rather controversial movie adaptation of the novel Eungyo.
Influenced by her father, who loves movies, Kim Go Eun aspired to become a movie director. But when she entered an arts high school to pursue her dream, a homeroom teacher suggested she try acting. Through her high school-level theatrical performances, Kim Go Eun became inspired to become an actress. Now boasting an exquisite filmography, she is an irreplaceable actress in the field whose works are trusted by the viewers to be high quality.
2. Kim Ji Won
Kim Ji Won, whose latest K-Drama, Queen of Tears, became tvN‘s record-breaking series, debuted in 2010 via a cellphone commercial.
In 2007, during her third year of middle school, she was street-cast by her first agency—though becoming an actress was something she hadn’t considered. Over the course of three years preparing for her debut, she was trained in acting, singing, and dancing. The training paid off when, in 2013, she took on the unforgettable role of Rachel in SBS‘s The Heirs, which she later thanked to be the “turning point” in her career.
3. Kim Hye Yoon
Kim Hye Yoon, whose current K-Drama, Lovely Runner, is receiving a tremendous amount of love and support, debuted in 2013 with a side character’s child role of a KBS historical series.
Since middle school, she had nurtured her dream of becoming an actress, and from her first year of high school in 2012, she diligently attended acting academies to prepare. After debuting, in late 2018 to early 2019, she beat odds of 200 to 1 in the auditions for the mega-hit JTBC K-Drama Sky Castle. Having left a lasting impression on the audience, Kim Hye Yoon earned her the “Best New Actress” award at the Baeksang Arts Awards with the supporting role.
