Her parents are devastated.

Netizens have been left in shock over the sentencing of a man who assaulted a woman on camera.

In February 2023, 20-year-old Yeo Ji Yeon went to Busan with friends. At one point during the trip, she was involved in an argument that unfortunately turned physical.

In the video from the incident, a man can be seen throwing Yeo Ji Yeon towards a table, knocking her and another female over. Yeo Ji Yeon suffered injuries to her head and cervical vertebrae that resulted in a cerebral hemorrhage, also known as a brain bleed.

She fell into a vegetative state and has remained on life support since the assault took place.

The man accused of the assault was charged without being detained until the trial, which occurred on May 2. Initially, a 5-year sentence was suggested and was upgraded to 8 before a sentence of 6 years was handed down.

The family of Yeo Ji Yeon have asked for stronger sentencing, mentioning that no attempts at apology from the man nor his family have happened until before sentencing, when the man tried to compensate for the crime.

My husband says that when our daughter’s health fails, he will take her in his arms and go to heaven with her. The perpetrator gets a short prison sentence and is released, while our child will never be the same again. He will get to live like a human and our child might die. It feels like madness to think this could become reality.
