The 60th Baeksang Arts Awards were held on May 7. It celebrated the best K-Dramas, films, actors, filmmakers, and more in the local industry.

Though it was a joyful event, some netizens believed that certain K-Dramas and films were unfortunately snubbed during the award show and deserved better.

1. Concrete Utopia

The first title that Koreans claimed was supposedly snubbed was the film Concrete Utopia starring actors Lee Byung Hun, Park Seo Joon, Park Bo Young, Kim Sun Young, and more. It received positive reviews from critics and was even chosen as South Korea’s entry to the 96th Academy Awards.

The disaster-thriller film depicted the struggles of a group of survivors of a major earthquake in Seoul.

It was nominated in four categories at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards: “Best Film,” “Best Director” (Um Tae Hwa), “Best Male Actor – Film” (Lee Byung Hun), and “Best Supporting Actress – Film” (Kim Sun Young).

None of them ended up winning.

“Best Film” was awarded to 12.12: The Day, “Best Director” to Jang Jae Hyun (Exhuma), “Best Male Actor” to Hwang Jung Min (12.12: The Day), and “Best Supporting Actress” to Lee Sang Hee (My Name is Loh Kiwan).

2. Coupang Plays’ Boyhood

Next up, Coupang Play‘s Boyhood was another well-received entry that did not win any awards. It starred Im Si Wan as Jang Byeong Tae, a weak loner who gets mistaken for the “Asan White Tiger” played by Lee Si Woo.

It was nominated in three categories: “Best Director – K-Drama” (Lee Myoung Woo), “Best Male Actor” (Im Si Wan), and “Best New Actor – K-Drama” (Lee Si Woo).

3. Netflix’s Daily Dose of Sunshine

Netflix‘s Daily Dose of Sunshine was also nominated in three categories. It is a K-Drama that focused on the interactions of nurse Jung Da Eun (Park Bo Young) in the Psychiatric Department of Myungshin University Hospital.

It lost “Best K-Drama” to MBC’s My Dearest and “Best Script” to Moving. Yeom Hye Ran who acted in the show Mask Girl took home “Best Supporting Actress – K-Drama” over Daily Dose of Sunshine‘s Lee E Dam.

4. JTBC’s Doctor Cha 

JTBC‘s Doctor Cha is another medical drama that netizens loved last year. It follows the story of Cha Jeong Suk (Uhm Jung Hwa), a housewife of twenty years who became a first year medical resident.

Uhm Jung Hwa was the sole nomination of Doctor Cha, giving up the crown to Lee Ha Nee (Knight Flower) in the “Best Actress – K-Drama” category.

5. JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother

Finally, JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother was a popular K-Drama that also came home with zero awards from the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards.

It tells the story of a young prosecutor (Lee Do Hyun) who reverted to his childlike self after an accident left him with amnesia. It led to him to heal his relationship with his mother, Jin Young Soon (Ra Mi Ran).

The Good Bad Mother was nominated in four categories: “Best K-Drama,” “Best Screenplay – K-Drama,” “Best Actress – K-Drama” (Ra Mi Ran), and “Best Supporting Actress – K-Drama” (Kang Mal Geum).

Instead of these entries, however, “Best K-Drama” was awarded to My Dearest, “Best Screenplay – K-Drama,” was given to Moving, “Best Actress – K-Drama” went to Lee Ha Nee (Killing Romance), and lastly, Yeom Hye Ran (Mask Girl) took home the award for “Best Supporting Actress – K-Drama.”
