The cooperation between the two companies dates back to 2023. In July 2023, the German brand announced that it would purchase 5% of Xpeng with an investment of $ 700 million. Then, in February 2024, a common parts use agreement was signed between Volkswagen and Xpeng to reduce costs. In this context, we know that Volkswagen will release two new models using Xpeng’s E/E platform.
Now, with the first agreement of 2025, the scope of cooperation between Volkswagen and Xpeng has been expanded. Xpeng has 1,790 charging stations with more than 9 thousand sockets in China. With the agreement, customers of the two companies will be able to benefit from the station network with more than 20 thousand sockets.
Xpeng has fast chargers called S4 in China with 480 kW maximum power (670A). The company states that these devices can provide a range of 200 km with just 5 minutes of charging. The Chinese company started the installation of its stations named S5 with 800 kW maximum power (800A) as of September 2024. It is stated that these devices can provide a range of 1 km per second for compatible vehicles.
