Trigger Warning: Article mentions suicide.
On May 12, 2023, a female pansori and Trot singer in her 30s has been found dead in her dorm according to media reports. The singer, only identified as “A,” did leave behind a suicide note, which was found a day later following a police investigation.
After speculation and rumors, the singer has allegedly been identified.* Rumors circulated that the identified person is the deceased after reports she could not be reached through phone or SMS. StarNews also tried reaching out to the up-and-coming star. On her social media and YouTube page, friends and fans left messages of shock and grief.
Comments on her personal Instagram have been limited or shut off, while her official Instagram has been set to private. Her Daum café and YouTube page are still up. Her Korean Wikipedia page has been updated recently to reflect the rising star’s passing.
A day prior to being found, the singer appeared on KBS for a show. The singer was a frequent guest on several music and variety shows in South Korea, having appeared on How Do You Play, Immortal Songs, The Trot Show, Gayo Stage, and Morning Yard among others. In January, she also performed on KBS’ Lunar New Year special.
The singer’s passing comes weeks after the passing of ASTRO’s Moonbin and a month after the passing of actress Jung Chae-yul, both deaths also believed to be suicide.
We send our condolences to the singer’s friends, families, and colleagues.
*We will not name her for privacy reasons as it appears the family does not want her identity revealed.
