TikTok METAPSA (Turkey, Middle East, Africa, Pakistan, South Asia) Public Policy Director Emir Gelen said in his statement that it is necessary to create a multifaceted strategy to ensure security on TikTok, where more than 1 billion content is shared per month.
Gelen emphasized that they carry out this process with both artificial intelligence technology, which provides automatic detection of rule violations, and manual review teams of more than 40 thousand people, and stated that their moderation teams work every day to ensure that the content on TikTok complies with the “community rules”.
Gelen said, “In the 7-month period between January and July of this year, more than 427 million TikTok accounts were closed globally. 379.7 million of these were accounts that were found to be fake. 41.8 million accounts were removed on suspicion of being under the age of 13. In addition, more than 7 million “The account was also closed due to violating our community rules,” he said.

Informing that TikTok publishes the “Security and Transparency Report” every quarter globally and shares it with the public, Gelen continued as follows:
“According to the results revealed in this report, a total of 7 million 97 thousand 236 videos were removed from the platform in Turkey in the first half of 2024 on the grounds that they violated our community rules. 98.67 percent of these videos were removed before they were viewed by users, and 88.66 percent It was removed and deleted within 24 hours. According to the report’s highlights, the rate of videos removed by automatic moderation technologies for violating community rules increased from 62 percent in the previous year. “In addition, the proactive detection rate reached the highest level ever, at 98.2 percent, and the re-upload rate of removed videos was halved compared to the same period last year.”
Gelen stated that TikTok’s community rules ensure user safety on the platform and increase the positive experience, and explained that these rules apply to all content and content producers on the platform.
Pointing out that there are standards on various issues as well as rules regarding what is allowed on TikTok, Gelen emphasized that these guidelines are constantly updated to prevent new risks and harms, and that as TikTok, they are determined to continue prioritizing investments in this field.
Gelen pointed out that they are doing a lot of work to prevent violation of the user age limit, which is set at 13, and said, “We are increasing security measures and testing advanced technologies such as age verification systems with artificial intelligence. We are developing automatic systems to detect fake age statements.” he said.
