ByteDance valued itself at around $225 billion in a tender offer to employees in October 2023. A buyback in December 2023 increased the valuation to $268 billion, according to an email the company sent to investors. Now 300 billion dollars!
A law signed by US President Joe Biden on April 24 gives ByteDance until January 19 to sell TikTok or it will be banned. However, the White House says they do not want TikTok to be banned.
ByteDance investors see President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House as an overall positive development for TikTok’s prospects in the US. Trump had supported banning the app as President, but changed his tune after meeting with billionaire Jeff Yass, a major investor in ByteDance and megadonor to the GOP, during his last campaign. It’s unclear how much Trump could influence the outcome of the legislation.
