TikTok, which has been criticized for both its ties with the Chinese state and its uncontrolled growing content, is making an intense monitoring effort in order to avoid conflict with governments. Both artificial intelligence and human review teams are working non-stop.

TikTok deleted almost half of its audience

TikTok METAPSA (Türkiye, Middle East, Africa, Pakistan, South Asia) Public Policies Director Emir Gelen shared the actions taken for inspection on the platform this year. According to the report, 427 million accounts were closed globally between January and July of the year. Of this, 379 million were fake accounts, 41 million were accounts under the age of 13, and 7 million were accounts that violated community rules.

In Turkey, 7 million 97 thousand videos were removed in the first 6 months on the grounds that they violated community rules. 98 percent of these videos were deleted before users could view them, and 88 percent were deleted within 24 hours.

The rate of videos removed by automatic moderation technologies for violating community rules increased from 62 percent to 80 percent compared to the previous year. Additionally, the proactive detection rate reached the highest level ever at 98.2 percent. The re-upload rate of removed videos has halved compared to the same period last year.

It is stated that on the TikTok platform, where more than 1 billion content is shared per month, there is a manual review team consisting of more than 40 thousand people, as well as artificial intelligence technology that enables automatic detection of rule violations.
