Arçelik celebrated the 20th anniversary of Telve, the world’s first automatic Turkish coffee machine, with a special event held on December 5, World Turkish Coffee Day. The event was held in Şerefiye Cistern, which reflects the historical and cultural texture of Istanbul, in cooperation with the Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association; Hosted by Koç Holding Consumer Durables Group President Fatih Kemal Ebiçlioğlu, Arçelik Turkey General Manager Can Dinçer and Arçelik Senior Sales Director Benay Bakiskan, Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association Chairman Nuri Çolakoğlu, historian and writer Saffet Emre Tonguç and many guests. took place with his participation.
Within the scope of the event, with the participation of Koç Holding Durable Consumer Goods Group President Fatih Kemal Ebiçlioğlu, Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association Board Chairman Nuri Çolakoğlu and historian and writer Saffet Emre Tonguç, moderated by actor Yetkin Dikinciler, “Arçelik Telve’s 20-Year Journey: Turkish Coffee” A panel titled “And Culture” was also held. A conversation took place about the cultural importance and future of Turkish coffee and Arçelik Telve’s contribution to this culture.
Stating that the interest and demand for Turkish coffee worldwide is increasing day by day, Koç Holding Consumer Durables Group President Fatih Kemal Ebiçlioğlu said, “We continue to introduce traditional Turkish coffee culture to the world. Twenty years ago, Arçelik engineers developed Telve, which carried Turkish coffee culture to future generations in the most accurate way. By combining a cultural heritage with technology and innovation, it presented a cultural heritage beyond a beverage to the world. We took a pioneering step by bringing Turkish coffee, which represents a deep-rooted tradition as the symbol of friendship, sharing and hospitality, to international markets. Telve, which we continuously developed with 88 patents during this period, has become a cultural ambassador carrying the Turkish coffee tradition to all over the world over time. So far, we have introduced more than 5 million Telves to coffee lovers worldwide. “We are happy that today, millions of coffee lovers in 32 countries experience the unique taste of Turkish coffee with Arçelik Telve,” he said.
Nuri Çolakoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association, said, “This year, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Turkish coffee being added to the list of world intangible cultural assets. Ten years ago, our friends and officials from the Ministry of Culture attended the meeting held in Baku and made a great effort to pass this decision by serving coffees they made with their own hands to the delegates. “I would like to commemorate and thank those who contributed to this,” he said.
Historian and writer Saffet Emre Tonguç said, “Turkish coffee is an ancient heritage for these lands; One of the rarest traditions of our culture. This value of ours, which has survived as a symbol of the importance our society attaches to solidarity and sharing despite being faced with various prohibitions throughout history, accompanies us in every moment of our lives, from marriage ceremony to daily conversations. “Undoubtedly, it will continue to be an important carrier of our cultural identity and an indispensable part of our lives years from now,” he said.
