Beko’s near-term targets approved by SBTi include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and absolute Scope 3 emissions from the product use phase by 42% by 2030, compared to the 2022 base year. In line with the SBTi-approved commitment to become net zero by 2050, the company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1-2 and also absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% compared to the 2022 base year.

Emphasizing that they see sustainability as a business model, Beko CEO Hakan Bulgurlu said, “We feel the effects of the climate crisis more acutely every day. The June-August period was recorded as the warmest period in the world since records began in 1940. Scientists state that the probability of 2024 being the hottest year ever is increasing. At this point, rapidly decarbonizing our industry is extremely important not only for our responsibility towards the planet and society, but also for the future of our business. As Beko, we focus on reducing our carbon footprint, energy efficiency and increasing our renewable energy installed capacity in all our processes, especially production and R&D. “We increase efficiency by digitalizing our factories in accordance with Industry 4.0 standards and lead our industry with our energy efficient products.”

CEO Bulgurlu added: “As of the end of 2023, we reduced our energy consumption per product in our production processes by 25.7% compared to the base year 2015. In 2023 alone, we saved approximately 95,680 GJ of energy through 373 energy efficiency projects and, as a result of our increased efficiency, 6,983 tons of CO2We prevented e-emissions. We used 64% green electricity in all our production operations. We aim to use 100% green electricity in all our production facilities and increase our waste recycling rate to 99% by 2030. With our goal of reducing our impact on the planet, we attach importance to our stakeholders being in line with us in this field. We aim to increase the green electricity usage rate of our suppliers to 100% by 2030. Our ultimate goal is a net zero future. “The approval we have received from SBTi reinforces the accuracy of our sustainability work and the reliability of our scientifically based targets.”
