A joint venture between German Schmid and Turkish construction materials giant Beijingtaş Group. Schmid PekintasIn Turkey 3 GWh a capacity vanadium redox flow battery took action to establish a production facility. in 2026 The facility, which is planned to start production, aims to reduce costs and make the technology more competitive in the field of energy storage.

Flow batteries will be produced in Turkey

This initiative, in which Schmid Beijingtaş has carried its success in solar panel production in Turkey since 2014 into a new area, aims to create the infrastructure that will put energy storage systems into mass production. Schmid Beijingtaş currently operates a facility with an annual capacity of 1 GW in solar panel production.

Schmid Group Energy Systems Vice President Henrik Buschmann said in his statement: “The design capacity of the factory will be approximately 3 gigawatt hours at full capacity. We want to establish this factory in the next two years. “This will be a significant investment and we are very confident it will have a major impact on our cost structure.” he said.

Schmid Group, which started a similar initiative in Saudi Arabia in 2019 but ended it in 2023, aims for greater success this time with the advantages offered by the incentives and market in Turkey. The companies say that “a significant amount of funds have been allocated” for the establishment of the new factory.

First products will offer 4-hour storage

Vanadium redox flow batteries produced by Schmid Beijingtaş represent the third generation of the technology that the company has been developing over the last decade. New facility to be established 15-30 kW power and 120 kWh depolama energy in standard 10ft container with capacity and 200 kW / 800 ila 1600 kWh will produce flow batteries in 40ft containers with capacity. 4 hours of initial storage capacity will be offered, but after Capacities of 8 hours and above will be switched to.

According to reports, there is 5.6 GW/357 GWh long-term storage capacity installed globally and vanadium redox flow batteries constitute 16 percent of this capacity. According to companies, Türkiye offers ‘significant opportunities’ for long-term storage thanks to strong incentives for hybrid renewable energy projects. Companies say there are strong incentives for hybrid renewable energy projects with capacities allocated under national tenders. Schmid Beijingtaş has partnered with thermo-electric energy storage developer Malta Inc. in recent months to add storage capacity to solar energy projects. signed a memorandum of understanding with Beijingtaş reports that redox flow battery production will complement this effort.
