Porsche will continue to invest in internal combustion engines

By admin, Kasım 27, 2024

Claiming that the transition to fully electric vehicles is not progressing as quickly as they expected, Porsche plans to increase its investments in internal combustion engines.

In particular, the fact that the sales of the electric Taycan model have halved as of the third quarter of 2024 was effective in the company’s decision to make this decision. Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke stated that they re-evaluated the company’s product cycle accordingly.

Confirming that internal combustion engines will be included in the Cayenne and Panamera models in the future, Meschke stated that V-8 engines will remain in use until the 2030s. He also stated that hybrid or internal combustion engine versions of some new models planned to be fully electric may also be developed.

One of the plans being decided is about the SUV codenamed K1. It is on the agenda that the SUV model with three rows of seats, designed to be completely electric, will be offered with an internal combustion engine or a hybrid version.

On the Macan side, the current model came fully electric. Since it is no longer possible to add an internal combustion engine to this model, the German manufacturer may choose to renew the previous generation and offer it for sale as an option.

Porsche’s strategic change is a response to both fluctuations in customer demand and challenges in the adoption of electric vehicles. Although the electrification process is expected to accelerate, it is thought that the company should show flexibility in a market environment where internal combustion engines are still in strong demand.
