This surprising discovery started with a clue from NASA’s Chandra X-ray telescope. Two galactic plasma jets have been detected: one crosses the plane of the galaxy perpendicularly, the other extends across the galaxy, and these structures form an “X” shape. This type of galactic structure has never been observed by astronomers before.
Behind this discovery, data from the Chandra telescope Examining old data with a new analysis technique lying down. Selective Amplification of Ultra Noisy Astronomical Signal or simply SAUNAS Thanks to this method, called plasma jets of the galaxy were revealed by making low-brightness X-ray emissions evident.
Additional data from Hubble and ALMA in Chile confirmed the dust ring at the center of NGC 5084 and its incompatible orientation with the galaxy. These observations clearly revealed that the black hole was tilted on its side. Researchers plan to study NGC 5084 more thoroughly to understand the details of this cosmic “crime.” However, this discovery already reveals how old data can yield striking results with innovative analysis methods.
