Referring to Turkey’s internet speed, Minister Uraloğlu said about fiber infrastructure. “We increased the fiber cables to approximately 580 thousand kilometers and 600 thousand kilometers. We bring it to the beginning of a street or the beginning of the street. Two, we can take it around the whole street. Three, we can bring it to the entrance of the house.” he said. The Minister stated that almost the entire internal structure of old buildings is copper, and therefore the internet speed automatically decreases even if a fiber line is installed up to the building.
Uraloğlu also said, “And considering all that I have just said, if I remember correctly, speed up to 80 megabits We are in a position to provide average service, but subscribers, subscriber conditions and requests approximately 35-40 megabits at the level. Well The demand is not enough at this point.” he said. Continuing his statements, the Minister said that he agreed with the criticism that “we are not at the speed we would like in terms of the internet”, but “this is the real situation”.
On the other hand, according to Speedtest’s report for the November 2024 period, Turkey ranks 102nd in the world with an average fixed internet speed of 48 Mbps and upload speed of 14.43 Mbps. On mobile internet, Türkiye ranks 61st in terms of download speed with 49.76 Mbps and upload speed with 14.99 Mbps.
