US-based semiconductor manufacturer Micronto expand its facility in Manassas, Virginia. An investment of $2.17 billion plans to do. According to the statement of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, thanks to this investment, 340 new jobs will be created and the semiconductor production capacity of the USA will be significantly increased.

Another investment from Micron to the USA

Micron’s facility in Manassas, automotive, defense, aerospace and industry Specially designed for industries long life DRAM It will be modernized to produce memory. The company had previously been under CHIPS and the Science Act for the improvement of the same facility. $275 million in federal funds had taken it. With this investment, it is planned to move DRAM production for the automotive industry from Taiwan to the USA.

The company will also be able to receive up to $70 million in additional funding if it meets its $2.1 billion investment commitment and creates 340 new jobs. This investment of Micron in the USA is important for national security and economic competitiveness. The facility in Virginia will strengthen the US domestic semiconductor supply chain with advanced technology manufacturing processes.

Micron has not yet made a clear statement on how it will upgrade the facility and by how much it will increase production capacity. However, long-life DRAM memory production is generally carried out in low volumes, and these processes are does not require state-of-the-art EUV lithography tools. Instead, more cost-effective equipment such as DUV lithography systems can be used. It is stated that with $ 275 million in federal funds, Micron will be able to purchase a large number of such equipment.

President and CEO of Micron Sanjay Mehrotrain his statement, pointed out that the company is the only memory manufacturer based in the USA. “Micron is grateful for the continued support of Governor Glenn Youngkin and the General Assembly as we work to produce long-life DRAM products in Virginia to meet future memory demand from U.S. defense, aerospace, automotive and industrial customers.” he said.
