GAC’s chairman Zeng Qinghong and general manager Feng Xingya, as well as Huawei’s rotating chairman Eric Xu and smart vehicle solutions unit CEO Jin Yuzhi, were among those who signed the agreement.

Huawei adopts three different models in cooperation with the automotive industry. While Huawei only provides HarmonyOS and other components at the most basic level, it collaborates more deeply with automakers by offering full-stack smart car solutions at the next level. This model is also known as “Huawei Inside”. In its deepest partnership, Huawei is building a completely new brand with an automobile manufacturer.

This agreement with GAC is based on Huawei’s strategy to create a new brand within the scope of the “Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance” (HIMA) business model. Huawei has signed similar collaborations with brands such as Seres, Chery, BAIC Group and JAC with the HIMA business model.

On the other hand, the close relationship with GAC goes back several years. In May 2021, GAC announced its plan to develop vehicles with L4 level autonomous driving technology with Huawei. In the same year, Aion started working with Huawei on a luxury SUV model. However, in 2023, GAC decided that this model would be developed independently by Aion itself. Despite this, Huawei continued to support the development of GAC branded models as an important supplier.
