Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the Digital 2024 October Global Statistics Report prepared by We Are Social and Meltwater. Uraloğlu stated that the world population reached 8.18 billion in the third quarter of 2024. Uraloğlu said, “According to the report published on digital media statistics, the number of internet users worldwide reached 5.52 billion, while the internet usage rate according to the population was 67.5 percent. “In our country, this rate is 86.5 percent, well above the world average,” he said.
Noting that according to the information in the report, the number of social media users worldwide is 5.22 billion and the ratio of this number to the population is 63.8 percent, Minister Uraloğlu said, “In Turkey, active social media users correspond to 65.7 percent of our population. 86.5 percent of these people have adopted the internet, and the time spent on the internet in our country is 6 hours and 51 minutes; We see that it is approximately 7 hours. “The number of active accounts on social media platforms is 303 million 97 thousand,” he said.
Stating that internet users around the world spend 2 hours 19 minutes on social media, and in Turkey an average of 2 hours 37 minutes per day, Minister Uraloğlu said, “While social media users around the world use an average of 6.8 social media platforms monthly, this rate is 7.5 in our country.” truck. Minister Uraloğlu noted that the number of users of popular social media applications in the world in Turkey decreased compared to the previous year, and stated that the biggest decrease was on the X platform. He shared the following information:
“The number of users of the X platform in Turkey, which had 22.7 million members in 2023, decreased by 14.2 percent to 19.5 million. Similarly, the number of Instagram users decreased by 5 percent to 53.8 million compared to the previous year, and the number of Facebook users decreased by 1.3 percent to 34.3 million. On the other hand, the number of users on TikTok increased by 9.3 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 39 million.”
Providing information about the social media advertising statistics included in the report, Minister Uraloğlu said, “While the ratio of Instagram users over the age of 18, who can be reached through Instagram ads, to the total population aged 18 and over is 28.1 percent worldwide, this rate reaches 82.8 percent in Turkey.” It has become the country with the highest rate in this regard.” he said. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the most visited website in the world is Google and said, “When we look at the purchasing habits on the internet, while the rate of internet users aged 16 and over who buy something online every week worldwide is 55.2 percent, this rate is in Turkey. It is 57.9 percent. When we look at digital content purchases, the rate of purchases made by these users every month is 65.9 percent in the world, while this rate is 65.4 percent in Turkey.” he said.
When looking at financial statistics, Minister Uraloğlu stated that while the percentage of internet users aged 16 and over who use banking, investment, insurance websites or applications every month is 38.1 percent worldwide, this rate is 36.1 percent in Turkey. While the rate of internet users aged 16 and over using payment services is 23.7 percent, this rate is 12.1 percent in Turkey.” he said.
