Final Fantasy XIV is known as a game that has achieved great success among online multiplayer games and has gained a large fan base. Now, the game is preparing to take its success one step further by moving to the mobile platform. LightSpeed Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent, is developing the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV. LightSpeed Studios is also known as the studio behind successful games such as PUBG Mobile.
According to the official announcement, the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is described as “an exciting extension of the beloved series” and aims to deliver the original game’s “immersive experience in a mobile-friendly format.” It’s unclear whether the new mobile game will include cross-platform support or expansions, but LightSpeed Studios plans to keep lifestyle content like fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing.
Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, described the new mobile game as “a sibling of Final Fantasy XIV.” Yoshida said, “It’s been 11 years since the release of FFXIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn, and this new mobile game aims to recreate the story and combat mechanics of the original on mobile devices. Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, remain faithful to the original.” “It will be implemented and we look forward to growing together with the FFXIV community.”
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was first released in 2013 and has been a huge success ever since. Having released many acclaimed expansion packs, the game has been praised for its respectful approach to Final Fantasy history, storytelling and numerous features. The mobile version will allow players to dive into a “meticulously crafted visual experience” in the world of Eorzea and will feature “more than 600 weather patterns across diverse landscapes” with “complex weather and time-of-day systems.”
Final Fantasy XIV Mobile doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will be tested with a playable demo in China and launch globally shortly after.
