Over the last nine years of their career, Red Velvet has been able to establish a very distinct sonic and visual concept for the group, which often edges toward something horror-adjacent. The group has done bright concepts, but “eerie” has come to be inherently associated with Red Velvet.

The anticipation around this new album has been high since its announcement, as their last musical release as a whole group was almost a year ago, with The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday mini album.

On November 9, SM Entertainment unveiled the music video teaser of “Chill Kill,” and fans were immediately reminded of the “Peek-A-Boo” and “Psycho” era for its chilling vibe. The cryptic visuals alone were enough to send a shiver down your spine, but with the accompaniment of the creepy soundtrack, the effect was even more amplified.

This teaser also turned out to contain a hidden gem, giving fans a sneak peek at the actual song, which even the highlight medley couldn’t. After the teaser’s release, some noticed that the music in the teaser seemed like an audio playing in reverse. When they re-reversed it, it sounded like a coherent song track, leading many to believe that it was the preview of the actual song!

Though it is yet to be confirmed if this theory is correct, it has surely added a new layer of mystery and excitement to the group’s new release.

Chill Kill is slated to be released on November 13. The album contains ten tracks, including the lead single with the same title.
