Euro NCAP shared the best of 2024 in safety tests

Euro NCAP announced the models that won the “Best in Class” title among the cars it tested in 2024. According to Euro NCAP, last year 5 cars from China, Germany and Japan set the standards in vehicle safety.

The vehicle that won Euro NCAP’s best overall safety performance award in 2024 was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Being a premium car, the E-Class achieved the highest overall score with a weighted average score in four safety categories (Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Protection of Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Aids) evaluated by Euro NCAP experts.

Compact SUVs made their mark in 2024. Of the total 44 vehicles tested by Euro NCAP, 20 belonged to this class. The leader in the compact SUV class was the Chinese Zeekr X, which surpassed the vehicles of European manufacturers. Volkswagen Passat and Škoda Superb, produced on the same platform of the Volkswagen Group, won the “Best in Class” award in the Large Family Car class. These two vehicles demonstrated class-leading safety performance.

Chinese automakers showed another impressive performance with the first electric pick-up tested in Europe by Euro NCAP. A five-seat, four-door pick-up Maxus eTERRON 9scored highly in all four security categories.

There were no vehicles nominated for the “Best in Class” award in the Small Family Car class in 2024, because the vehicles with the highest scores in this category did not meet the eligibility criteria for the award by receiving a red body score, meaning “poor”, in safety tests.
