Passports vary depending on their use and purpose. There are 6 types of passports:

  • (Bordeaux color) Ordinary Passport: The most used passport type. It is a passport issued to Turkish citizens within certain time limits for their foreign travels without or with a visa. You can learn all the details in our article what is a maroon passport.
  • (Green) Special Stamped Passport: This is the type of passport given to civil servants and their families for a maximum of 5 years.
  • (Gray colour) Service Stamped Passport: It is the passport given to people working in state affairs and representing the state to go abroad.
  • (Black) Diplomatic Passport: It is the passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to government officials and their families who will go to congresses and conferences abroad.
  • (Pink) Temporary Passport: It is the passport issued by Foreign Representatives to Turkish citizens abroad. It is given temporarily for 1 month in cases such as passport loss.
  • Passport for Foreigners: It is a passport issued by the General Directorate of Immigration Management for one departure or one return from Turkey.

To obtain a passport, you must first make an appointment online or by phone at the Population and Citizenship Affairs Office. You can get a date to apply to the provincial or district population directorates. After your appointment date is determined, you must prepare the necessary documents and pay the passport fee. (Passports with special and service stamps are exempt from fees.) The application must be completed by going to the application center on the appointment date and time. Biometric data such as fingerprints are also recorded during the application. After your application is approved and your passport is prepared, your passport will be received from the application center or by mail.
