CATL CEO Robin Zheng states that the most important thing to make battery replacement a widespread service is to standardize battery size. In this context, the company introduced two battery packs designed and standardized for battery replacement.
Officially called Choco-SEB, the battery packs support lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) types, the most common batteries in electric vehicles. It is stated that these batteries, designed for compact vehicles in the A and B segments, will provide a driving range of 400 to 600 kilometers according to CLTC.

The manufacturers registered to CATL’s battery replacement station network were announced as GAC, BAIC, Wuling and FAW. Some of the vehicles that these companies will release by 2025 will be developed to be compatible with battery replacement stations. CATL will establish the first 1000 stations with its own investment. The next stations will be put into operation through partnership.
We can define battery replacement as a battery subscription system that has been previously tried by brands such as Tesla, but is now frequently referred to as the Chinese Nio. In vehicles sold as part of this ecosystem, the cost of the battery is not included in the sales price. Vehicle owners use the battery as a monthly subscription at tariffs similar to the one above.
Users who benefit from this service can either go to the charging station and recharge it if their battery is low, or they can come to the battery replacement station and replace it with a full one in just 3-4 minutes. Since we can interpret this service as a kind of battery rental, it does not matter which battery is installed in the vehicle.
