Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne made a statement regarding the Chinese social media platform TikTok.

According to AA news; Citing “security risks”, Minister Champagne announced that TikTok’s commercial activities will be banned, as well as its offices in Toronto and Vancouver will be closed.

Stating that Canadian citizens can continue to use the application and produce content, Champagne said, “It is important for citizens to pay attention to their cyber security and evaluate the potential risks of using social media applications.” he said.

In May, Canadian Security Intelligence (CSIS) Director David Vigneault called for the social media platform TikTok not to be used on the grounds that it was an information channel for the Chinese government.
