Artificial intelligence will be replaced by ‘Superintelligence’ – OpenAI will turn towards ‘Superintelligence’!

In his personal blog post published recently, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company’s knowledge of artificial general intelligence (AGI) is now turning to superintelligence. Altman states that superintelligence can accelerate scientific discoveries and innovations, going beyond humanity’s capacity and increasing prosperity. However, he raises important caveats that this technology must be managed safely.

WHAT IS SUPERINTELLIGENCE POTENTIAL?

Altman suggests that superintelligence could arrive “within the next few thousand days” and that its impact will be much more intense than expected. OpenAI defines AGI as highly autonomous systems that will surpass humans in most economically valuable jobs. Altman states that this technology can significantly change the output of companies and engage the workforce. According to OpenAI and Microsoft’s definition, AGI also includes artificial intelligence systems that can generate profits of at least $100 billion.

SECURITY AND RISKS

It is emphasized that today’s artificial intelligence technology has significant technical limitations. These systems can make obvious mistakes for humans and can be costly. Altman acknowledges that safe management of superintelligence is not guaranteed and that current adaptation techniques cannot scale to superintelligence. OpenAI emphasizes that sufficient resources must be allocated to ensure that superintelligence behaves safely. The company states that the transition to superintelligence is not guaranteed and that solutions are still being sought to overcome the difficulties in this process.

OpenAI is entering into a process of corporate restructuring to become more attractive to external investors and new commercial structures to use the possibilities brought by superintelligence. It is stated that the company is making efforts to find the balance between its commercial goals and security concerns. OpenAI wants to move forward by balancing its commercial success with security and ethics.

Altman says he believes that in the next few years everyone will see what OpenAI sees, and that it is important to proceed with great caution. “Given the possibilities of our work, OpenAI cannot be a normal company,” says Altman, stating that it is a great honor to take part in this work. Altman also states that the transition to superintelligence needs to be carefully managed and that this technology can provide broad benefits to humanity.

“THE COMPANY IS MAKING A LOSS”

Altman also mentioned the company’s $200 monthly fee ChatGPT Pro plan. He emphasized that the company lost money with this plan because users used it more than expected. “I personally went with the price and thought we would generate some revenue,” Altman explained. The ChatGPT Pro plan removes speed limits from OpenAI’s other tools, such as the o1 “reasoning” AI model and the Sora video renderer.

Although OpenAI has raised approximately $20 billion in investments since its founding, it is not a profitable company. The company, which earned $3.7 billion in revenue last year, expects a loss of approximately $5 billion. Expenses such as staff salaries, office rent and artificial intelligence training infrastructure are among the main reasons for these losses. At one point, it was estimated that ChatGPT was costing OpenAI $700,000 per day. Recently, OpenAI admitted that it would enter into a corporate restructuring process and needed more capital than expected in order to attract new investments. To achieve profitability, it is stated that the company is considering increasing the prices of various subscription tiers. OpenAI projects its revenue to reach $100 billion by 2029, equivalent to Nestlé’s current annual sales.
