The only innovation we have seen so far is the appearance of features such as navigation information on the dashboard in some models of brands such as Polestar, Porsche and Lincoln. For example, even vehicles with large screens such as the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus are far from offering the experience that includes the dashboard that Apple dreams of.
Apple has a vision of disrupting an industry over which it has limited influence. The company admittedly has a better track record of doing this than most, given its successes in the music and telecom industries, but the automotive industry seems like a tough nut to crack in many ways.
While it’s clear that CarPlay is a powerful platform for infotainment systems, it’s less of a revolution and more of an inspiration for automakers to take the software much more seriously. In addition, automobile manufacturers do not want to hand over all controls of the screens in the vehicle to someone else.
