In addition to Children’s Day, May has two other important days that make it “Family Month” in Korea: Parents’ Day on May 8 and Teachers’ Day on May 15. In honor of this month, Lee Jong Suk donated ₩100 million KRW (about $75,000 USD) to the Asan Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital on May 3, which will support medical expenses for children from low-income families. This donation was more meaningful because it included the profits from his bazaar on April 30.

This isn’t the first time Lee Jong Suk made a positive impact with his donation—he has been steadily donating and helping out people in need. Last year, he donated ₩100 million KRW (about $75,000 USD) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to help people affected by forest fires. He also donated ₩100 million KRW (about $75,000 USD) to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation to help young people prepare to enter society as independent adults.

In addition, when Covid-19 started to spread in 2020, Lee Jong Suk donated 3,000 pieces of medical protective clothing worth 100 million won to the Korean Medical Association on February 28 to support medical staff fighting COVID-19. According to an article from 2020, prior to Lee Jong Suk donating medical clothing to the Korea Medical Association, IU had done so as well. She donated 3,000 pieces of medical protective clothing along with warm messages of support and encouragement to medical staff.

The two have been donating and doing good deeds before they became a couple, and they continued to do after they confirmed their relationship.

On May 5, IU prepared pizza, drinks, and rice cakes for the students and faculty at Miral School, a special school for students with disabilities. It was revealed that IU’s mother prepared the rice cakes herself, which made the gift more personal and thoughtful.

The idea for the pizza gift came to be when IU volunteered her talents last month by featuring in a song called “A Footstep” for Miral School. The song delivered the message of hope to the students at Miral School and the people who have been supporting them. Since then, IU has continuously supported Miral School, sending them a snack truck during the music video filming for “A Footstep” in March, leading to the pizza party surprise this month.

Seeing IU and Lee Jong Suk both reaching out to make a difference on Children’s Day inspires us all, and it shows how kind-hearted and influential they are—as individuals and even more as a couple.
