According to the news of South Korean The Elec, Samsung has designed the screen for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) plans to implement the technology. This technology provides higher screen brightness and increases the energy efficiency of the panel.
CoE technology in OLEDs replaces polarizing plates with color filters. It also replaces the generic Pixel Definition Layer (PDL) with a black PDL. With these changes The panel becomes thinner and light transmittance increases. Therefore, lower power is needed to produce the same amount of brightness.
Black PDL also, It reduces the light reflected from inside the panel. To make this change, the existing orange photosensitive polyimide (PSPI) material is replaced with a black material between the red, green, and blue subpixels. Additionally, a color filter (CF) is printed onto a thin film encapsulation (TFE) layer at a low temperature.
CoE technology was first Galaxy Z Fold 3It was used in ‘s foldable OLED screen. Galaxy S26 Ultra will be the first traditional smartphone to use an OLED panel with CoE technology. It is not known whether the panels produced by Samsung Display will be used by other members of the series.
