The images published by NASA TV from the ISS showed the moments when Butch Wilmore and Williams, who had been stuck on the station for 7 months, took a spacewalk.
During the spacewalk, which took place while the ISS was 260 miles (420 kilometers) above Turkmenistan, female astronaut Williams was heard calling out on the radio, “I’m going out.”
US spacewalks were suspended after water leaked into the airlock from the cooling cycle for an astronaut’s suit, NASA announced that the problem had been fixed.
Williams and Wilmore were sent to the ISS for a week-long test flight with Boeing’s new Starliner capsule on June 5, 2024.
However, due to a technical malfunction in the Starliner, the return date of the two astronauts was postponed, and NASA gave the directive that the capsule return empty.
It is estimated that the two astronauts will not be able to return to Earth until the end of March or early April, as SpaceX, which took over the mission, postponed the launch date of the spare capsule, and their stay in the space station will be approximately 10 months.
