Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the communication sector data of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) for the third quarter of 2024.

22 BILLION TL INVESTMENT

Minister Uraloğlu noted that the number of operators operating in the electronic communications sector was 444 at the end of the third quarter of 2024 and that the number of authorizations given to these operators was 815. He said that 22 billion liras were invested in the communications sector during this period.

MOBILE TRAFFIC AMOUNT INCREASED BY 3.8 PERCENT AND REACHED 83.2 BILLION MINUTES

Minister Uraloğlu announced that the amount of mobile traffic in the third quarter of 2024 increased by 3.8 percent compared to the previous three-month period and reached 83.2 billion minutes. Emphasizing that the fixed traffic amount increased by 11.5 percent compared to the previous period with 1.3 billion minutes, Uraloğlu noted that 95.5 percent of the traffic amount was mobile-to-mobile traffic.

THE MOST SEARCHED COUNTRY WAS GERMANY

Providing information about the fixed market data in the report, Minister Uraloğlu said, “As of the end of the third quarter of 2024, there are 9.2 million fixed telephone subscribers. “During this period, the country with the most calls from all fixed networks was Germany.” he said. Minister Uraloğlu said that Türk Telekom’s voice traffic, which was approximately 466 million minutes in the third quarter of 2023, reached 422 million minutes in the third quarter of 2024.

THE NUMBER OF FIBER SUBSCRIBERS INCREASED BY 16.9 PERCENT

Noting that the number of broadband subscribers was around 6 million in 2008, Uraloğlu said, “As of the third quarter of 2024, the number of broadband subscribers reached 96.4 million. In this period, total internet subscriptions increased by 1 percent and the total number of internet subscribers increased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous period. “Our number of fiber subscribers increased by 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year, and our total number of fiber subscribers exceeded 7.6 million.” he said. Minister Uraloğlu stated that as of the third quarter of 2024, fiber length increased by 7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 588 thousand kilometers.

BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS USED 279.5 GBYTE PER MONTH

Making evaluations regarding the usage data, Uraloğlu said, “In this period, the average monthly usage of broadband internet subscribers was 279.5 GByte, and the monthly usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers was 17.5 GByte. The share of subscribers receiving fiber internet service in the total fixed broadband market increased and reached 38.1 percent. In this quarter, while the fixed broadband penetration rate according to the population was 23.5 percent, the mobile broadband penetration rate reached 89.5 percent.” he said.

THERE ARE 1.27 MILLION ACTIVE .TR DOMAIN NAMES

Stating that there are approximately 1.27 million active domain names with “.tr” extension in TRABİS records as of the third quarter of 2024, Uraloğlu said, “77.4 percent of these domain names are ‘com.tr’ and 2.4 percent are ‘gen. tr’, 2.2 percent ‘org.’ tr’, 1.1 percent have the ‘net.tr’ extension, and 13 percent have the direct ‘.tr’ extension.” he said.

9.1 MILLION QUALIFIED ELECTRONIC CERTIFICATES WERE CREATED

Minister Uraloğlu stated that as of the third quarter, there are 8 authorized electronic certificate service providers actively operating in the communications sector. Uraloğlu reported that 9.1 million qualified electronic certificates have been created by these providers to create 8.1 million secure electronic signatures and 1 million mobile secure electronic signatures by the end of September 2024. Minister Uraloğlu said, “As of the third quarter of 2024, seven of the nine authorized registered e-mail service providers continue to operate actively. “3.1 million registered e-mail account addresses were created.” he said.

NUMBER OF MOBILE BROADBAND SUBSCRIBERS 76 MILLION 370 THOUSAND 403

Minister Uraloğlu noted that as of the end of September 2024, there are a total of 94 million 495 thousand 554 mobile subscribers in Turkey, including machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers, corresponding to a prevalence rate of approximately 110.7 percent, and said, “In this period, the number of 4.5G subscribers is 87 million 537 thousand.” It stood at 163. The number of mobile broadband subscribers receiving internet service from computers and mobile phones with 3G and 4.5G services was 76 million 370 thousand 403. “The total amount of mobile internet usage in this quarter was 3 million 919 thousand 929 TBytes.” he said.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that Germany is the country where the most traffic is sent and received the most traffic in mobile networks, and that the short number with the most calls from mobile networks is 182 Hospital Appointment. Minister Uraloğlu said that in this period, the total number of SMS was 5 billion 873 million and the number of MMS was approximately 12.7 million.

Stating that approximately 83.1 percent of the total mobile subscribers are individual and 16.9 percent are corporate subscribers, Minister Uraloğlu said, “In the third quarter of 2024, the total mobile traffic volume increased by 3.8 percent compared to the previous three-month period and reached 83. It amounted to 2 billion minutes. “With an average monthly mobile usage time of 502 minutes during this period, Türkiye became the country that made the most calls via mobile phone compared to the European countries included.” he said.
