Musk failed to deliver on his promises, xAI’s Grok 3 model was delayed
The great advances made in the field of artificial intelligence in recent years do not always occur at the expected pace.
Giant companies such as Google and OpenAI have also experienced similar glitches in their flagship models in recent months. Last year, artificial intelligence startup Anthropic failed to deliver the successor to its Claude 3 Opus model on time. xAI’s Grok 3 model is the latest example of this trend. Despite Elon Musk’s big promises, Grok 3 has still not been released, and this once again reveals the trend of artificial intelligence models not being delivered on time.
MUSK SAID IT WILL BE RELEASED IN 2024
Last summer, xAI founder and CEO Elon Musk announced that xAI’s next big AI model, Grok 3, would be ready by the end of 2024. Grok is being developed as a rival to OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini and has the ability to analyze images and answer questions. Musk had stated that Grok 3 would make a major breakthrough after being trained on the Memphis-based 100k H100s, a massive GPU cluster.
As of January 2, Grok 3 still hadn’t been released and there was no sign of it coming soon. This once again showed that Musk’s claims about the timing of product launches are often unrealistic. In an interview with Lex Fridman, Musk stated that Grok 3 will “hopefully” be released in 2024.
The failure to release Grok 3 is part of a trend of AI models not being delivered on time. Some code on xAI’s website indicates that the intermediate model “Grok 2.5” may be released first. We will wait and see.
