The Federal Ministry for Digital Communications and Transport (BMDV) wants to make Germany a leading center for the development and operation of drones and electric flying taxis (eVTOL). In this regard, a timeline has been published for the Advanced Air Mobility plan that will guide operators.
Within the scope of the strategy, it is also planned to establish vertiports, which are special runways where air taxis can take off and land vertically. Additionally, a qualification program for pilots will be established, safety issues will be clarified, a legal framework will be created and new route concepts will be developed.
Other steps are also being taken to encourage air taxi development. The Ministry wants to promote innovations in the Advanced Air Mobility sector to strengthen Germany as a technology hub. In this context, support for research projects and close cooperation between industry and research institutions will be ensured.
Especially for next year, it is planned to establish laboratories for real-world applications of Advanced Air Mobility. In these laboratories, issues such as the safe integration of eVTOL and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS) into the existing transportation infrastructure, creating the infrastructure required for eVTOL operations and developing integrated security systems will be discussed.
Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing believes that the future system is a technology for everyone. “Advanced air transportation will not only be an elite project for business travelers, it will benefit the whole society. In particular, transport drones and eVTOL will also be used in regions that are currently difficult or impossible to reach by traditional means of transportation,” the strategy document states. expressions are included.
