According to sources at Korean Economic Daily (KED) Global, this agreement has led to speculation that LG batteries could also be used for Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus, another initiative of Elon Musk. However, no clear statement has been made on this issue yet. A spokesperson for LGES confirmed the relevant contract to Business Korea, so it can be assumed that Optimus is not in the agreement. LG Energy Solution spokesperson said, “We have signed a contract to supply power supply batteries for SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft and are currently developing the product.” he said.

LGES has been supplying batteries to Tesla for a long time. In fact, LGES also produces 4680 cells for Tesla. Therefore, it is not surprising that SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, chose LGES when looking for battery supply for Starship. On the other hand, LGES had previously gained experience in the field of aviation and space by working with NASA in 2016.
