Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: Global technology collaboration will continue under Trump administration

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, in his statement in Hong Kong, stated that global technology cooperation will continue even if the new administration in the USA imposes stricter export controls on advanced IT products. “Open science and global collaboration are a long-standing foundation in the fields of mathematics and science. It is the foundation of social and scientific progress,” Huang said.

USA’S TECHNOLOGY EXPORT RESTRICTIONS

During his first term, US President Donald Trump imposed restrictions on the sale of US technology to China on national security grounds. This policy continued under President Joe Biden. These restrictions forced Nvidia, the world’s leading company that produces chips for artificial intelligence applications, to change its product range in China.

GLOBAL COOPERATION AND INNOVATION

“Collaboration will continue. I don’t know what will happen under the new administration, but no matter what, we will continue to improve our technology and serve our customers around the world, while balancing compliance with laws and policies,” Huang said, speaking at the financial center after receiving an honorary engineering doctorate from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. “We will continue,” he said.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

“If the world uses more energy to run AI factories, we will have a better world when that happens,” Huang said in response to a question about the huge energy requirements of graphics processing units (GPUs). Huang stated that the purpose of artificial intelligence is inference, not education. For example, he said, AI could discover new ways to store carbon dioxide in reservoirs, new wind turbine designs and new materials for electricity storage.

Huang noted that AI supercomputers should be located slightly off the energy grid, with sustainable energy sources and away from populations. “My hope and dream is that what we all see in the end is that using energy to harness intelligence is the best use of energy we can imagine,” he said.

MESSAGE TO GRADUATES

“The era of artificial intelligence has begun,” Huang said in his speech after receiving an honorary degree. “This is a new era of computing that will impact every industry and every field of science,” he added. Addressing the graduates, Huang said, “I wish I had started my career during this period. The whole world has reset. You are at the starting line with everyone else. An industry is being reinvented. Now, you have the tools to advance science in many different fields. The biggest challenges of our time are those that seemed impossible to overcome in the past.” , it suddenly seems manageable,” he added.
