Reminding that such cyber thefts have occurred in Uganda before, the newspaper emphasized that some banks are reluctant to announce these incidents to the public for fear of losing their customers.
After the incident gained national repercussion, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Experts state that such attacks point to weaknesses in the digital security infrastructures of financial institutions and that this infrastructure should be strengthened.
